2021 THE ORGANIST - NAPA VALLEY RED BLEND

Paying homage to my former discipline as a Pipe Organist, this red wine is both approachable and polished. A proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec harmonize to create a medium, full-bodied blend that is ready to enjoy now or cellar for many years to come.

    TASTING NOTES
The 2021 pours as a shade of dark ruby in the glass. With an evocative and perfumed-like aroma, the nose opens with notes of black raspberry, rose petals, crushed plums, and sweet pipe tobacco. The palette is generous and round with notes of blueberry, blackberry, baking spices, silky cocoa powder-like tannins.  The finish lingers with notes of cola berry, clove, and vanilla bean.

    VINTAGE

2021 started off with little rainfall, leading the vintage into a warm and dry season, driving yields down and concentrating the intensity of fruit flavors. While there were a few heat events leading up to harvest, the valley was spared from the excessive spikes experienced in previous vintages. The result was a smooth and steady season, allowing all fruit to receive ample hang time, achieving optimal flavor development prior to harvest.

    VINEYARDS

Starting with this 2021 vintage, The Organist has a new home in three distinct sources: Planted on hallowed land, the E. Rutherford Vineyard was first cultivated to grapes in 1895 by Elizabeth Rutherford, in the southeastern corner of what we now call Rutherford AVA. Planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon, this old vine vineyard provides power and a chocolaty texture to the wine. Second to the blend comes Merlot from the A & D Vineyard in Oak Knoll. Planted in 1986, this pristine and organically managed vineyard is dry farmed and cropped at low yields. This Merlot provides ample fruit and a silky roundness to the wine.  Finally, Malbec from a vineyard situated at a staggering 2,100ft atop Mt. Veeder. The Last Light Vineyard was planted in 1998 and produces an extraordinarily concentrated Malbec, lending wild and ripe black fruit characteristics to complete the final blend.
